Developed with responsible retailing in mind, InControl's Wake-up onLan element reduces carbon emissions, saves energy and saves your business money.

The InControl Wake-up onLan works by automatically shutting down the epos systems at the end of the night, and powering them on just before stores open in the morning. Initially used across 8,000 terminals in the Co-operative group, the system is simple, effective and can take into account varying opening times, including 24 hour stores.

After stores have closed, the terminals automatically have everything powered down apart from the network card, which requires only a small amount of energy. Just before store opening, the systems power up automatically sending any updates to the terminals before trading begins.

Turning the terminals off overnight reduces carbon emissions; in the example of the Co-operative Group it is estimated to have saved 722 tonnes of carbon per year with shutdown of an average 9.5 hours a night.

In addition to the positive impact on the environment, it also significantly reduces costs and can prolong hardware life. The Co-operative Group anticipates savings of £120,000 per year on energy costs through this initiative alone.
